Trevean Nyth Studio

Trevean Nyth Studio, established in 2004, is the home-based visual art business of Alberta artist Janet Cole.

"My art has always been about my life or my passion.  My inspiration usually comes from nature or my own intrapersonal reflections.  I use the images to tell a story, not necessarily autobiographical, but to offer my thoughts, experiences and values.  I try to evoke a feeling from the viewer, often of something calming, insightful or even melancholic. I like to explore the deeper meaning, to make social comment or to offer a peaceful moment.

Recently, I have been pulling hand printed linocuts and am finding a measure of success with it.  I love the process of relief printing: the sound of the ink on the brayer and the anticipation when a new print is pulled and revealed.  I intend to print in small editions and to hand colour select images, creating unique prints.

I love the science of art and enjoy experimenting to find the right solution.  Printmaking is a great process that facilitates precision and my need for details, yet allows forays, that when let loose, creates expressive and spontaneous results.

My personal process starts with thoughts and emotions and, after a certain amount of gestation, with the tools in my hands, the results become evident.  What images appear are often a surprise."
